Netflix Series ‘Sweet Tooth’ Will Premiere Season 2 On April 27th

The series has been an interesting one, as a fantasy drama it seems to capture something kind of unique on screen. The streaming series developed by Jim Mickle is based upon the D.C. comic book series of the same name by Jeff Lemire. We can only assume that Jeff Grace will be a part of the musical score again as well. So far, he has contributed to 40 different productions as a composer.

While many may have never heard of the comic, it captured some real attention on Netflix when it premiered back on June 4th of 2021. This fantasy drama series of sorts, is set in a post-apocalyptic environment and has a real well-rounded cast of characters.

The first episode follows the main character known as Gus (Christian Convery), who learns about the dangers that lurk beyond his fence (in the forest) to the outside world beyond. Along the way, he meets up with some allies including a wandering loner named Jepperd (Nonso Anozie) who helps him find his way who is also known as “Big Man”.

It is difficult for the boy to not go unnoticed within this world as he sports deer antlers upon his head being a hybrid character. All of this is due to “The Great Crumble” when society itself collapsed due to a viral pandemic. Sound familiar? A disease of sorts seemingly infects most of the world’s population. After this, the emergence of hybrid babies begins to happen. These living beings are also part animal by nature.

Gus has keen senses which aids him during his travels, yet he is being hunted down by a group of people who want to see the extinction of these mutant type hybrids. Other actors appear in this series including Adeel Akhtar, Stefania LaVie Owen, Dania Ramirez, Aliza Vellani, Naledi Murray, Neil Sandilands, Marlon Williams, Christopher Sean Cooper Jr. and Yonas Kibreab as well as narrator James Brolin.

Other interesting notes are that creator Jim Mickle did serve as showrunner, executive producer, writer and even directed. The series so far had good support by actor and producer Robert Downey Jr. Both Amanda Burrell and Linda Moran also executive produced alongside co-executive producer Evan Moore as well.

During the season 2 release fans will see more into this fascinating world as Gus will have to find his inner strength inside to save his friends and unravel the deepest secrets of “The Great Crumble”. Many but not all of the remaining humans are hunting down the hybrids out of fear and understanding. This certainly affects the outcome of things and acts as a spark for chaos to happen all around the main cast.

Many who watch this series likely didn’t expect much from it. However, the general consensus is that most everyone found it to be both entertaining and exciting to watch. It is unknown yet whether or not a 3rd season will happen but we can only assume so. By the way, fans of The Mandalorian wonder if Favreau will have an ending yet.
