Peter Jackson Thinking About Lord Of The Rings Franchise Reboot

There have been six films crafted by an outstanding team of folks bringing forth life to the literary works by the late J.R.R. Tolkien. Behind the helm is director Peter Jackson, who certainly made this overall powerful story an international success. While the story is straightforward, it is endearing to many fans and generations.

The casting was spot on along with the special effects, cinematography and direction. The adaptations from the books were a real work of art on screen to behold. Perhaps they will re-release these sometime back in the theater for all to enjoy again.

While there is no real wrong way to watch each of these six films, one might start with them in more of a timeline order. The following list (is the order) of how to watch these films and how the tale was originally told. It is also okay to start with The Lord of the Rings first as another option.

  1. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)
  2. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
  3. The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies (2014)
  4. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
  5. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
  6. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)

It seems that Peter Jackson (is getting eager) along with the writers of the previous films to have a possible franchise plan return. Could this be a spin-off series or a deeper dive into the Tolkien world? It is undeniable that these films are near and dear to people’s hearts. They continue to be celebrated around the world.

Peter Jackson and his “Lord of the Rings” writing partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens commented, “Warner Brothers and Embracer have kept us in the loop every step of the way. We look forward to speaking with them further to hear their vision for the franchise moving forward,” (via Variety).

The Middle-earth six-film series is quite a saga to tell on screen. Back in 1978, there was an animated adaptation which was directed by Ralph Bakshi. It missed the mark according to some but was a good starting point for the later films to build off from. Due to the commercial success it might be the reason film studios such as Warner Bros are interested. CEO David Zaslav did reveal the company’s intention in partnership with Embracer Group AB and New Line Cinema to make more “Lord of the Rings” films.

News of this was mentioned back on February 23, 2023 when sites like Looper were given information directly from Warner Bros. They have kept them in the loop along with Variety magazine.

No doubt, recasting will happen or perhaps not but it is speculation at this point. So, how much did Lord of the Rings make at the box office together? The answer is $2.991 billion dollars, it was a smashing success and among the highest-grossing film series of all time.

There are many actors and actresses out there who would eagerly accept a role. Just with the other films, the casting is quite crucial. It’s difficult to imagine other actors trying to pull this off. If they are going to redo everything, then it will have to be perfect in every way possible. For now, what was exactly said has been kept hush hush. If there is potential, then we can expect something to start brewing with these creative minds at work.

No doubt people are excited about the possibility. Others might want things to be left as they are and not mess with what was already done. However, if you are a fan of this franchise, it might be worth giving it a chance but the right folks need to get involved to bring forth the magic and make it right.

For those who love Indiana Jones, another film has a release date announcement found here.
